About Dr. Bonner

Dr. Kevin Bonner is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at the Jordan-Young Institute, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder and knee injuries. He focuses on using minimally invasive, evidence-based techniques to help patients—from elite athletes to active individuals—regain mobility and return to their lives pain-free.

Before joining Jordan-Young, Dr. Bonner served as an orthopedic surgeon in the U.S. Navy, including as Chief of Sports Medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and team physician for the U.S. Navy SEALs.

Dr. Bonner is a Fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (FAANA) and one of only a few in Virginia to hold this designation. He also serves as Chairman of AANA’s Education Committee and is frequently invited to teach and speak at major orthopedic conferences worldwide. His involvement as a chairman, program director, and expert faculty member has allowed him to evaluate new surgical techniques and technologies at their earliest stages. In fact, Dr. Bonner has contributed to the development of several procedures now widely used across the U.S., particularly in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and ACL reconstruction. He also serves on national expert panels focused on advancing surgical education and proficiency for orthopedic surgeons nationwide.

His commitment to continuous improvement and clinical excellence keeps him at the forefront of innovation, ensuring that every treatment he offers is based on proven science—not commercial hype. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters on topics including meniscus repair and transplantation, cartilage restoration, ligament reconstruction, and biologic therapies such as stem cells.

Dr. Bonner treats a wide range of patients, including many of the region’s top athletes and collegiate teams. Professional athletes from the NFL, MLB, and NCAA, as well as international patients, routinely seek his care for complex shoulder and knee procedures. He also proudly serves as Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon for Old Dominion University’s Women’s Soccer, Men’s Baseball, and Women’s Basketball teams.

Above all, Dr. Bonner believes in treating patients like family, combining cutting-edge care with personal attention, integrity, and compassion.
