About Dr. Laurent

Dr. Laurent is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in complex spinal conditions, with a focus on using minimally invasive techniques for problems traditionally treated with open surgery. His clinical interests include degenerative spine disease, discogenic pain, and spinal deformity correction.

A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Laurent earned honors and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society as a third-year student. He completed his neurosurgery residency at UVA, where he helped pioneer the institution’s early use of minimally invasive spine surgery and conducted research on spinal biologic agents for fusion.

Dr. Laurent also trained internationally as a fellow at Auckland Hospital in New Zealand and completed a spine fellowship at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center, where he received the CNS Spine Fellow Award.

Currently practicing at Neurosurgical Specialists Inc. in Norfolk, VA, Dr. Laurent remains active in teaching, clinical trials, and advancing new technologies in minimally invasive spine care.
